Martin Family

Hi, I want to start by joining a Martin Working Group. If helpful I do have DNA findings if this is helpful. We think Abram Martin was our immigrant to the Virginia Colony. My father's family moved eventually to Albemarle County in Virginia. They were mostly farmers. Thanks for any help.

Hong Kong Police

In the 19th. century constables for the European contingent of the Hong Kong Police were recruited from the UK.  Most came from London's Metropolitan Police, Scottish Constabularies or the Royal Irish Constabulary but in 1882 the south-west of England was targetted with the result that 13 officers were recruited from Bristol.  The following link will take you to the story of Job Witchell who was one of these men:

The Trustees of the Board for Certification of Genealogists (BCG) met in Salt Lake City on 10 October 2015. Three new trustees joined the Board: Paul Graham, CG, Judy Kellar Fox, CG, and Richard G. Sayre, CG, CGL. Two trustees retired from the board: Elizabeth Shown Mills, CG, CGL, and Elissa Scalise Powell, CG, CGL  Both have served as president of the BCG and provided distinguished service to the Board and the community at large for many years.

Susanah (Susan) Martin Showalter Foulk  b 9 Dec 1805-6,  in Lancaster Co. PA, died 3 May 1886 Waterloo, Blackhawk Co. IA

He is the son of Peter Foulk Sr and Catherine Ohlinger ??who is the son of John Folk  died Berks Co. PA and Mary Magdeline Strock of Cumberland Co. PA.

She moved back to Cumberland /Perry Co after John's death in 1793.

For years and years our extended family line of Curtis has tried to get at the reason for a name change to Curtis from Pennington. Here is what we know. Hiram Pennington was born abt. 1825 and raised in the household of Joshua and Nancy Sparks Pennington. They were found early on in Lee County, Va before they moved to the part of Floyd County, Ky that would in 1844  become Johnson County. The first instance found of Hiram changing his name to Curtis was when his daughter Cynthia was born in 1854

The TWISS family of SHROPSHIRE (ALICE AND ROBERT) had humble beginnings. They owned a small but prosperous farm. RICHARD TWISS (my 7th gt grandfather) youngest son B.1609 died 1682 was recruited as Land Agent for LORD CHERBURY, in Kerry, IRE. in 1656.  Richard Twiss father died c.1630 and left him fourteen pounds, but farm went to ADAM, his older brother.
