These days, many of us take photos with our phones and send them to each other via email or post them online to various photo sharing websites such as Flickr and Twitpic. I’ve also got photos on my Facebook profile and there’s some video clips of me speaking on my website. I don’t have photos of my family or my children when they were young on my iPhone or even in my wallet. I suppose I should get some in there! My husband carries a photo of me and photos of the kids taken around 20 years ago in

Some Sites Shared Worth Noting

As a family historian and genealogist I thought I'd pass along a few websites worth noting ... (From a Friend with permission)

http://thomasday.net/ The Thomas Day Education Project (TDEP) ... see more on the project.
"Thomas Day (1801 – 1861) was a 19th-century free African-American craftsman and a founding father of the modern Southern furniture industry. "

First Church, Nashua, New Hampshire

When we first moved to Londonderry, New Hampshire I was surprised to find there was no Congregational church.  Nearly every town in Massachusetts has one!  Almost every New Hampshire town has one, too, but since Nutfield was founded by the Presbyterians, the churches remained Presbyterian for a long time.  The First Church in Derry changed to Congregational in the 1800s, and I tried a few services there.  My husband was working in Nashua, and he said several co-workers attended the First Church

Thomas Carroll enigma!

I have a brick wall and I need some new directions to go.  The problem is the name of the person is "Thomas Carroll".  I know when he was born only from his tombstone and death certificate.  The first census in which he could definitely be identified was in Fairfax Station, VA - 1860.  I have a lot of other information, but here's the problem.

From the beginning of the Irish famine and soon after, so many "Thomas Carroll"s came over on ships.  Some of them even have the same birthyear of my Thom

Hello

Hello my name is Paula Jones, I'm from Oregon and I'm new to this site, but not new to Genealogy.  My paternal grandfather  and my mom gave me the interest in learning about my family history and once I started I was addicted.  Hopefully I can find some answers to a few dead ends I have come across.

Ancestry.com, and the spread of misinformation

I have received yet another enquiry based on family trees hosted on ancestry.com which contain wrong information.

Now, I am not for one moment saying that everything on my family tree, freely accessible on the internet (though not right now, but that is a different story), is 100% correct, but my database allows anyone to 'Suggest' corrections. I have, for example, recently made a major change based on outcomes from DNA research

However, correcting something on Ancestry is a different matter. Some

The schooner Fame is moored in Salem, Massachusetts at Pickering Wharf.  She was built in Essex, Massachusetts by Harold Burnham, and launched in 2003.  The Burnhams have been building boats in Essex since the 1640s.  The original schooner Fame was an Essex fishing schooner used as a privateer in the War of 1812.

The interesting connection is that Abner Poland III served on board the Fame in the War of 1812 by Abner Poland III of Essex, Massachusetts.  I’m descended of his sister, Sally Poland,

Researching Review

How often do you open  your genealogy program and review what is actually in there?

Are you aware of the files with out census information?  So much can be garnered from census data.

Do you know if you have completed the information for Church data or marriage dates? The same applies for burial and death dates.

Amazing how  things look so nice and complete  but when you really start looking we have lots of dashes not filled in.

Wondering how we will ever have the time t

I am third generation American, born in 1953, and my father, Robert Alton Hutto, born in 1928. My grandfather, Joseph Henry Hutto, was born in 1885. He was the first born child of my great-grandparents, George Washington Hutto and Anna Greene Hutto (originally an immigrant from Hamburg, Germany), and hence the first American citizen born to our family.

I have a major concern about the websites out there claiming our surname HUTTO is either German or English, but in fact my great-grandfather "Geo
