I have a brick wall and I need some new directions to go.  The problem is the name of the person is "Thomas Carroll".  I know when he was born only from his tombstone and death certificate.  The first census in which he could definitely be identified was in Fairfax Station, VA - 1860.  I have a lot of other information, but here's the problem.

I have received yet another enquiry based on family trees hosted on ancestry.com which contain wrong information.

Now, I am not for one moment saying that everything on my family tree, freely accessible on the internet (though not right now, but that is a different story), is 100% correct, but my database allows anyone to 'Suggest' corrections.  How often do you open  your genealogy program and review what is actually in there?

 Are you aware of the files with out census information?  So much can be garnered from census data.

 Do you know if you have completed the information for Church data or marriage dates? The same applies for burial and death dates. 

 Amazing how  things look so nice and complete  but when you really start looking we have lots of dashes not filled in.

I am third generation American, born in 1953, and my father, Robert Alton Hutto, born in 1928. My grandfather, Joseph Henry Hutto, was born in 1885. As I write this, I am sitting on a plane returning from a family reunion in California. My cousin celebrated his 70th birthday yesterday and several family members flew in for the occasion. My cousin's grandmother and my grandmother were sisters, so while I see him all the time (since he lives in the same building as my parents), his sisters and their families all live on the east coast and the only time we see each other is at weddings, funerals, and other special celebrations such as this.

You do not have to wander far to do genealogy research.  From the Armchair in your living room to down the street at the nearest library you can garner information to use in your hunt for clues to expand your knowledge of family.
