I am searching for my gr-gr grandmother's family in Meriwether County Georgia. Her name was Georgianna/ Georgia Ann Sheppard/Shepard/Sheperd/Shepperd. I got Jacob Swartz' will transcribed and was a bit surprised by what it contains. It definitely narrows down his death date and separates his children into first wife and second wife.In a nutshell, here is what it says:10 April 1852 - original will made. Gives $5 each to sons Frank, Anthony and Joseph. Leaves all land, stock and personal goods to wife Gertrude. Sons Nicholas, John and Peter to divide said property after her death.14 May 1854 - codicil made. Adds son Mathias to share in property.

If anyone has questions about Australian record finding, including Australian National Archives please contact me. I have some knowledge of emmigration by Italians to Australia in the 1920's. Politics play a large part in their departure. I also visited Italy in Sep 08.

As a follow-up to my recent post - What is a blog carnival? - I received several inquires about events such as Madness Monday and Tombstone Tuesday in which many genealogy bloggers seem to participate.A blog meme is different from a blog carnival in that there is no formal "hosting" portion of the event. This means it is loosely organized - often spreading by mere "word of mouth" or "word of blog post" as it were. Some memes are regular and long-running such as Wordless Wednesday. Some blog meme

Sigh. Lazing the day away watching Saturday morning cartoons is one of my favorite childhood memories... the most anticipated being the Rocky and Bullwinkle Show. There wasn't a segment of that show I didn't like, but my favorites were the Fractured Fairy Tales and Mr. Peabody's Improbable History. So what do Saturday morning cartoons (and the Rocky and Bullwinkle Show in particular) have to do with family history and genealogy in general? Aside from triggering my own memories, some of which havi

John Mills has eluded many of us that have descended from him for many years. In American, there are hundreds maybe even thousands of individuals that descend from the surname “Mills”. I have started this blog so anyone with the surname “MILLS” in their family tree, can try to distinguish if they are part of my Mills family, plus maybe this will be away of breaking down the brick wall that held strong until last summer. A chip was broken off with new information but the wall still stands strong.

I have been searching for years now for more information on my greatgrandfather's accident while he was an 'engineer for the Northern Pacific on a western division' (according to his obituary) or, while working for Chicago Northwestern as a brakeman (according to a family member)Clayton Dick Herbert lost his leg in a railway accident ... that much I am certain of. I'm assuming this happened between 1870 and 1880 but am not positive of that. I'm basing my assumption on finding him as a day labour

Anyone who has been following me or my group GeneaBloggers here on Genealogy Wise will know that I post several events each month including blog carnivals.I often need to be reminded that - just because I've been blogging about my genealogy research and family history for almost three years now - not everyone is familiar with the concept of a blog carnival. So here is my attempt at an explanation:- A blog carnival is usually hosted by a blog owner and runs on a regularly scheduled basis such as

I'm Michael Lamka of the Ohio part of the clan. I've been actively searching for family roots since about Family Tree Maker V2.0. My last version was 10, decided I was not entirely happy with the reviews on the newer versions so tried some free/trial downloads of other software and finally settled on Legacy 7.0 Deluxe.I signed up for this social network in hopes of receiving assistance and creating a strictly genealogicol place for my siblings and other relatives to keep track of what's happenin

I was doing some genealogy for a co worker and came upon some of my own. My mother had 3 sisters. I found out where two of them were buried. And a nice kind person wrote the obits for them on the web site WWW.FindaGrave.com. He was not related or anything just a kind person who loves doing genealogy. And maybe helping out a person or two. So from this information I now knew my aunts family. Or should I say their names at least. So being the growing detective that I am. I did searches on Myspace

Up here in the frozen north we take great pains to point out the differences in how Canadians and Americans approach things. No better example is in how each country gained independence from Great Britain. In the United States the people grabbed their muskets and shot at the British. In Canada we grabbed our lawyers and threw them at the British. Through the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries the British were quite use to people grabbing muskets , guns, spears , or whatever was laying about and

I have wondered many times what it is about genealogy research that is so appealing to me. It's more than just knowing the names of ancestors, more even than finding out their individual stories. There's something in the thrill of the hunt, of piecing together all the pieces, reading between lines, following the slightest clue and having it pan out, and the elation that follows when your search is finally culminated and your answer is found.Except that every answer only open new doors, new myste
