The Dagenais surname

Chronicle of Our Branch of the Family
in North America

Frederick Dashner

Agenais

A good starting point in the Dagenais genealogy, therefore, is the surname itself, which is rooted in Agenais, a former province of Ancien Régime F

6a00d8341d219b53ef0120a51c4ac8970b-piI still love birthdays. When I was little my mom hung streamers, balloons, and a big Happy Birthday sign on the wall. Today, my wife continues the tradition, minus the streamers and balloons. I still get the big sign. And I still look forward to it. Maybe I'm just trying to hold on to my youth. (I did find my first grey hair this year though....)Today marks the birthday/anniversary of a different kind. It's now been four years since our first Legacy News blog article was published. Today I have officially gone to the dogs!

Call it "Dog Days of Summer" or just plain biting off more than I can already chew...I just opened up my grandson's family tree website to the dogs or their ancestral pets.I have been knocking this idea around ever sense I got the GenBug after I retired from my work in Animal Welfare. The idea, was to provide a place for folks to post their ancestors pet's picture, hopefully with the owner, if not, just the pet will do, I even quietly entered a pet on ancestry.com and quickly removed it when I r

Just a heads up that many genealogy bloggers are seeing their recent blog content reused at splogs (spam blogs). Just like spam and every other scam that seems to invade the Net, periodically blog content theft rears its ugly head and hits even genealogy blogs.I've written about this extensively over at the GeneaBloggers.com website and you can read more here. You'll find ways to detect blog content theft, how to send a cease and desist notice, how to set up automatic alerts for your content, and

What is a blog carnival?

Anyone who has been following me or my group GeneaBloggers here on Genealogy Wise will know that I post several events each month including blog carnivals.I often need to be reminded that - just because I've been blogging about my genealogy research and family history for almost three years now - not everyone is familiar with the concept of a blog carnival. So here is my attempt at an explanation:- A blog carnival is usually hosted by a blog owner and runs on a regularly scheduled basis such as

Research is boring, but rewarding

I'm Michael Lamka of the Ohio part of the clan. I've been actively searching for family roots since about Family Tree Maker V2.0. My last version was 10, decided I was not entirely happy with the reviews on the newer versions so tried some free/trial downloads of other software and finally settled on Legacy 7.0 Deluxe.I signed up for this social network in hopes of receiving assistance and creating a strictly genealogicol place for my siblings and other relatives to keep track of what's happenin

Technology - and specifically the Internet - has allowed many of us to make great advances with our own genealogy research. And it has given us the ability to connect and network with other genealogists on sites like GenealogyWise. My colleague Elyse Doerflinger who runs the Elyse's Genealogy Blog has another great post that takes her genealogical societies discussion one step further into the technology realm.Elyse points out how relatively easy it is for people to create a blog these days and h

What is a blog meme?

*

As a follow-up to my recent post - What is a blog carnival? - I received several inquires about events such as Madness Monday and Tombstone Tuesday in which many genealogy bloggers seem to participate.A blog meme is different from a blog carnival in that there is no formal "hosting" portion of the event. This means it is loosely organized - often spreading by mere "word of mouth" or "word of blog post" as it were. Some memes are regular and long-running such as Wordless Wednesday. Some blog meme
