Reconsidering My Approach

As I am finally getting back into pursuing my genealogy, I am reconsidering my research data, my analysis techniques, and my approach to collecting, storing, and documenting the proofs of my research. Being new to family tree research I had to spend quite a while finding the correct method of going about this without spending tons of money being a student I simply couldn't afford it. 

 

I began by asking family members, and managed to uncover the whereabouts of my great, great granddad, who actually came from Yorkshire in England. My family tree so far has dated back 6 generations. I plan to use this information and record it in a database, then build out a family tree chart

There have been a rash of Blog posts about the release of Family Tree Maker 2011. It looks like I last visited the subject of lineage linked database programs
back in January of 2009. For those of you who are not used to that

Event database program

One of the things I feel the need for as a research tool is an event database program, and I wonder if anyone else feels the need for auch a thing.Most lineage-linked genealogy programs allow one to enter and search events relating to people, but I see the need, in addition, to be able to search for people relating to events.In other words, one would enter events, and enter information about people who participated in the events, whether related to each other or not. Okay, so I must admit that I do not use any genealogy software right now. I once had Family Tree Maker around 2004 but when my computer crashed and I lost all of the data (thankfully I had backed up everything with paper due to me being very paranoid) I just couldn't find the time to retype everything.
