I was just looking back over some old research and I came across a record of my grandfather from WWI.In the record it stated he had been charged with "leaving his post",this was while he was in hospital in England after been wounded in the Battle of the Somme. He was gone for 2 hrs, unfortunately it doesn't say where he went but my thoughts are he slipped out of the hospital for a pint! Anyone else with a similar funny story please let me know.

This is not an advert. It is a very kind entry which took up some time: I hope it is of interest to a lot of readers.
This site is the only one which has actually covered these two extremely important persons. If one reads the ancestry.com or Devon Records, you get a totally wrong impression. I note that Victor Cowling often mentions these names. However in that era no records were kept except those of John Doidge. Those more recent, are so distorted, they hav

Last week I was at an annual conference for the Association of Personal Historians in St. Louis, Missouri. This is my fourth conference to attend, and one of the highlights for me is catching up with people from all over the world that I communicate with regularly but don’t get to see in person all too often, as well as meeting new historians and learning about the work that they are up to.
This year I had the pleasure of having dinner with a Danish woman. She told me about a long standing value
