Mary Browne Kearney kept this rare photo among her personal papers. It shows her husband Joseph Dernier Kearney, identified by the X she placed over his chest. Joseph lived with Martin Kearney and his wife Mary, his foster parents, having come to them in 1895 at the age of three from New York City on an Orphan Train. Some time after 1900, Joseph adopted the Kearney surname.
