My great grandfather Fred Mietz at age 19. Born in Wolcottsville he uprooted his young family to make a go of it in Oklahoma in 1900. Prairie dust, a sod hut and homesickness wore down his wife and by 1903 she and the youngins were on a train back to western NY. Slowly they moved from farm to farm toward central NY. Later in life he became a carpenter and resident of Syracuse. Fred was known for his miserable disposition and hot temper.
