In 1802 Hendrikus (1757-1831) moved from the family farmstead, married, and built this house. It is now about 2X the size, his sons adding to it in the years following. Since it is a provincial monument, it stands today yet in pristine condition. In 1811, Hendrikus established our permanent family name, taken from the former farmstead. He named this house and acreage "de Vrede" or "Peace".
