Many of us are stepping into the 1940’s by way of the US Census. Our family has been busy with weddings this spring; our son’s and our nephew’s. Now that they are behind us and those young men have happily begun married life I have had an opportunity to begin my search.

I was happy to discover that New York State has been indexed. The first people I wanted to find were my mother and her parents, the Nathaniel Gardner family in New York City. Thanks to ancestry.com I found them quickly.

An Introduction

Hello!

I'm new to Genealogy Wise, but not to genealogy itself, so I thought I'd start off with an introduction post.

On my Mum's side I have a collection of common names and very uncommon names. My maternal grandmother's line follows the Harrises of Upper Holloway in Islington, London and the Nevols family of Shropshire (the spelling of "Nevols" appears to be unique to my family line so if you have that spelling in your ancestry there's a high chance you're related to me). My maternal grandfather'

What would it look like if you had a computer with every single memory stored on it forever? You would be able to access every webpage you’ve ever looked at, every email you’ve read, every photo you’ve taken or been in, videos of your public speeches, records of conversations. Everything that you felt was important or not important stored away for you to review or others to find out about you.

Back in the late 1990′s Gordon Bell decided, like many of us, to start scanning and digitizing some of t

Wanted to share an amazing experience with all of you at Genealogywise.com.  For decades, I have sought information on my great, great grandmother "Bridget Galway", who immigrated to the US, from Ireland.  The only information with which to search was the fact that she married a French immigrant, Andre.  As her grandchildren aged, I asked questions and mentally stored tidbits of information they revealed.  None of them had ever met Bridget who died fairly young.  My grandmother only spoke of her

Cunningham Family in Co Cavan, Ireland

Mary Cunningham married Michael Coyle (b c 1820) in Ireland c. 1838. They were my third great grandparents in my mother’s family tree. For the longest time that is all I knew about Mary Cunningham.

Death Record

This spring I found Mary's death record. Knowing that Michael and Mary lived in County Cavan, Ireland I browsed through the list of available microfilm records through Family Search. I looked for County Cavan in general and the townland of Moat/Moate specifically. The list was not long. I

Some More History Ties on Osbornes

I mentioned in a previous blog about   Andrew Osborne of Johnson County, Ky. and his death in the Civil War. Andrew's father was Jesse Osborne who had come to Johnson County from Harlan County, Ky which had been a part of Knox County, Ky. Jesse's father (Andrew's grandfather) was Ephriam Osborne Jr. who had been an Indian fighter and a member of his brother's militia (Enoch Osborne) in what was then Montgomery County (now Grayson County), Va. during the Rev.War. Ephriam Jr. had been born in the

The Soundtrack Of My Life Story

A couple of weeks ago my husband and I went to visit our friends in New Braunfels, a town near San Antonio, Texas. The next town over, Gruene, (pronounced, for some unexplainable reason, as Green) is a well-known tourist spot and home to Gruene Hall, built in 1878 and the oldest continually running dance hall in Texas. Many famous musicians have made their start at Gruene Hall and often come back frequently to relax and entertain.

The night we were there, Jerry Jeff Walker was in the house. Walke
