Just a brief message today to alert those interested in island genealogy news, that there was a very excellent article entitled: "¿De Dónde Venimos? el fascinante estudio de la genealogía (From where do we come? The Fascinating study of genealogy) concerning the importance of genealogy for present and future generations. A three page spread! The three individuals interviewed were Luis Burset Flores, Hilda Blanch Miranda and well-known author and historian, Walter Bonet Cardona. All three are members of the Sociedad Puertorriqueña de Genealogía of San Juan (of which I am also a member). Luis Burset Flores, a genealogist since the age of 10, is the past president of the Society which this year celebrates its 20th anniversary. The current president is Dr. Norma Feliberti Aldebol de Santos. All have made significant contributions to the Society and have authored several articles in Hereditas the Society's biennial genealogical and historical publication which is read not only in Puerto Rico but in the United States and round the world. It is found in many University libraries in the Caribbean area.Coincidentally, all are my cousins and share not only many, many great grandparents but a mutual love of genealogy and the history and culture of Puerto Rico. Their interviews were excellent. Undoubtedly, it will motivate more individuals to consider learning not only about their family ancestry but very importantly, the value of interviewing their elders while they are still with a part of everyone's lives.Great job on a wonderful article, Luis, Hilda and Walter. The Society could not have had better representativesArticle:
