Organizing

I'm beginning to organize the data that I've collected over the last four years. Papers, papers, papers, and binders full of information. Beginning to to feel overwhelmed and running across the same information two or three times. Going to spend some time making sense of everything I have and find a proper home for them. I was working with too many family members at one time and will concentrate on ONE family unit at a time. That is my pledge/promise for today.

  • I'm using Family Tree Maker 2009 and my problem is with all the paper. I just bought some storage drawers to collect the papers and I'm in the process of putting family members in folders with the information I find. That's a huge start for me. Next step will be getting my grandmother to label the mounds of pictures we have of relatives that I have no clue about.
  • I'm thinking you might want to look into some software (there are many types available, ranging in price from nothing to quite expensive) as it makes it much easier to organize yourself. I use Legancy Version 7, the free version. Will work myself up to the full version (at about $50.00, it's really quite reasonable) and find it great.
