Mystery Lady

13559141278?profile=original Hello , I decided to post this picture postcard at the slight change someone my be able to identify this lady . This is a post card it was found among my Grandmothers Old family Pictures. I will attempt to add a picture of the writing on the back. I find the writing on the  illegible. The writing with Ellen and a ? is mine. My best guess is Aunt Ellen or Allen. My Grandmother Lydia's maiden name was Hover she was born in Candor, NY in 1895 she lived in Candor until abt 1921 moved to Newark Valley NY. She married Arnold " Leon Cowles also of Candor, NY . I found a Ellen Jacobs born in Candor,NY 1841 as a canidate . The Jacobs are connected to the Hovers . It also possiable this lady may have been a friend. to my Grandmother. Her style of dress seems fitting to Ellen Jacobs time line. My best guess is this was a grandution picture maybe she was a teacher. I decided to post back of picture in another blog post as i dont want to risk messing this up and writing again.

  • Well, I hope you are able to figure it out someday soon... =)
I suddenly remembered that I also have a 'Mystery Woman', who is also an aunt. It says on the back that she is my g-grandmother's sister, but that was written by her granddaughter when she was a grandmother, so maybe she got it wrong? At any rate, I've not had any luck finding a Mary/Mollie and Mattie(Martha?) sister combination in the right place at the right time that couldn't account for the Mary/Mollie...

  • Hello Loralee, Thanks for your interest. My Grandmother Lydia  grew up in Candor, NY, Lydia's parents did not have any siblings named Ellen . I have been wondering about an Ellen Jacobs in my tree related to my Grandmother Lydia's Father's side Robert Hover. Robert's  father Solomon married a Jane Jacobs.  Ellen  Jacobs is not closely related To Jane Jacobs. But so far this  Ellen is the only possible relative. she was been 1841 in Candor, NY .

  • It says 'Aunt Ellen' just above the very clear 'Ellen?'. It's just very sloppy writing.
Where did your grandmother grow up? Did either of her parents have a sister named Ellen, or perhaps married an Ellen?
