I believe it was a Dr. Turnbull, New Smyrna Beach, Florida, who wrongfully enslaved 1,000 New Smyrna Beach, Florida, Menorcans? I descend Loyalist Capt. Philip Yonge, H. M. Surveyor-General of Georgia (son of the Hon. Henry Yonge, Sr., Loyalist, H.M. Surv.-Gen. of Georgia; son of the Hon. Francis Yonge, Lords Proprietors Surv-Gen of the Bahamas, Carolinas, & Georgia) who's brother, Loyalist Maj. Henry Yonge, Jr., was H.M. Attorney-General of British East Florida, as such annulled the indentures of 1,000 New Smyrna Beach Menorcans and commanded a company of them at St. Augustine, Fla., in the Rebellion/Revolution. Maj. Yonge's plantation is now Ormond, Florida; it's Public Library on Yonge Street. Did Dr. Turnbull's descendants remain in the U.S.? What happened to Dr. Turnbull? Jim Miller, Southport, N.C.

  • Hello James.  This is a late response to your question, but I just came across it. If you haven't already found it, you can find a wealth of information if you google "The letters of Andrew Turnbull."

If you email me at dhsully@yahoo.com, I can give you many other links to info on Turnbull, his fate, and the fate of his Minorcan slaves.
