Apparently at the same time over 180 new collections of records wereadded to FamilySearch'sRecord Search (also known as Record Search Pilot) the same recordsplus most of the existing records from the Record Search were added tothe FamilySearchBeta. The announcement was made to the FamilySearchIndexers upon their login to the FamilySearchIndexing website. The announcement also appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune. Theannouncement contained the following:

FamilySearch, the world's largest repository of genealogical information, todayannounced it will release records containing 300 million names that cannow be researched online for free.

Jay Verkler, president of FamilySearch,the genealogy division of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-daySaints, made the announcement during the National GenealogicalSociety's annual meeting. More than 2,000 family history specialists,librarians and ancestral hobbyists are attending the convention at theSalt Palace Convention Center in Salt Lake City.

FamilySearch has established a temporary website, fsbeta.FamilySearch.org for therecords. In the next several weeks, the site will become a permanentpart of FamilySearch.org.
